The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is ramping up security protocols at all Champions Trophy 2025 venues after two shocking pitch invasions in Rawalpindi and Lahore raised serious concerns.
The first security breach happened in Rawalpindi during the New Zealand vs Bangladesh match when a fan stormed the field to hug Rachin Ravindra. Security acted swiftly, arresting the intruder and banning him from all cricket stadiums. Just days later, another pitch invader disrupted Afghanistan’s victory celebrations against England in Lahore, further exposing security vulnerabilities.
With these consecutive incidents sparking outrage, the PCB has pledged enhanced security measures to ensure the safety of players, officials, and fans.
Reports say the Rawalpindi intruder was carrying a photo of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) leader Saad Rizvi and managed to bypass security before being caught.
“The PCB has taken serious note of these incidents. Player safety is our top priority, and we are working with local security agencies to increase security personnel and strengthen access controls at all venues,” the PCB said in an official statement.
With the Champions Trophy 2025 on the horizon, the PCB is under pressure to step up security and prevent further breaches that could threaten the integrity of the tournament.
